Thank You Sponsors:

Legal Community Against Violence gathered in October 2012 for an exclusive screening of the HBO documentary Gun Fight directed by two-time Academy Award winner Barbara Kopple. The film was followed by a brief panel discussion which focused on actions and solutions. Many thanks to all who participated in this wonderful event.

HBO's Gun Fight explores the complex issues surrounding America’s gun culture and the heated debate over firearm violence.

Thank You Panelists:

Virginia Tech Survivor and Activist Colin Goddard

While enrolled as a fourth-year student at Virginia Tech, Goddard was shot four times and was one of seven, out of a classroom of 17, to survive the shooting. Working at the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, Goddard now uses his experience to educate others about gun violence and the weaknesses in U.S. gun laws. He is currently traveling across the country sharing his story in an effort to educate, advocate, and mobilize Americans to get involved in preventing gun violence. Goddard’s story is featured predominantly in the Gun Fight film.

San Francisco District Attorney George Gascón

George Gascón has been the District Attorney of San Francisco since January 2011. Gascón previously led the San Francisco Police Department having assumed the position of Chief of Police in August, 2009. He received a B.A. Degree in History from California State University, Long Beach, and a Juris Doctor Degree from Western State University, College of Law. Working in law enforcement since 1987, he has experienced the repercussions of gun violence and is a dedicated advocate for effective firearm regulations.

Emeryville Chief of Police Ken James

Ken James has been a police officer with the Emeryville Police Department for 36 years, rising through the ranks to become the Chief of Police in 1998.  He is the chairman of the California Police Chief’s Association’s Firearms Committee as well as a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police’s Firearms Committee.  As a police officer who has seen the tragic outcomes of gun violence he has been committed to the reduction of gun violence since his first day on the beat.

LCAV Executive Director Robyn Thomas

Robyn Thomas has been the Executive Director of Legal Community Against Violence, a national law center dedicated to preventing gun violence, since 2006. Founded by lawyers in the wake of the 101 California Street assault weapons massacre in San Francisco, LCAV is the country’s only organization devoted exclusively to providing legal assistance in support of gun violence prevention. Before working in the non-profit arena, Robyn practiced law at Lord Bissell & Brook and at Milberg Weiss Bershad & Shulman in New York.

Moderating the Discussion: LCAV Board Member Doug Boxer
